Origin

Norwich Terrier and Norfolk Terrier was until the mid 20th Century, a common breed. Both come from the English county of Norfolk, Norwich is the capital namesake of the breed. Small terriers were bred for a long time to control rats and mice and also used for competitions, in which bets were placed out which dog in the arena, the Pit, the fastest killing the most rats.
In the south of Ireland bred Colonel Vaughan extra small variations (up to 25 cm), he needed to drive foxes out of the building.

Many other small terrier breeds that were bred later added, created the modern type of dog. As an independent existence of the Norwich Terrier breed in the UK since 1964 and since 1979 in the USA.

 

 


Description

The Norwich Terrier is a small (up to 26 cm), short-legged, keen dog, compact and strong, short back, physically active, of robust constitution. The skin color is all shades of red, wheaten, black and tan or grizzle. As with the Norfolk Terrier, the hair is hard, wiry and straight, lying close to body with a thick undercoat. Characteristic of the breed are erect ears, set wide apart on the upper head, Medium and pointed.

 


Nature

Once he is no longer needed as the Pied Piper, he is now mostly a pure family dog. The ideal Norwich Terrier shows amiable, not quarrelsome, alert and fearless.
